    Security & Limitations

    Security Approach

pdfclnr is built with privacy as a core principle. The platform helps users remove hidden metadata and internal structures from PDF documents before sharing them.

All file processing happens locally in the user's browser using client-side execution. Files are not uploaded, transmitted, or stored on external servers, which means documents remain on the user's device throughout the process.

Because of this architecture, pdfclnr does not have access to the contents of your files.

    Metadata Cleaning

PDF documents often contain hidden metadata such as document properties, timestamps, document identifiers, XMP metadata, and other internal structures that are not visible in the document itself.

pdfclnr provides tools designed to remove these common metadata elements through features such as Safe Clean and Custom Clean, allowing users to sanitize documents before distribution.

Additional tools such as Merge, Split, Compress, and Edit Metadata are also available to help prepare and manage PDF files.

    Format Complexity

The PDF format is highly flexible and allows information to be stored in many different structures.

pdfclnr is designed to detect and remove common metadata layers that are typically present in PDF files. However, because of the complexity of the format, unusual or non-standard structures may not always be detected automatically.

For highly sensitive use cases, users are encouraged to review processed files before distribution.
